Sally Loses 12 Pounds: Exactly How I Did It!

Sally’s Newsletter, Tuesday, April 13th

* * * Quote of the Week * * *

"When you affirm big, believe big and pray big,
putting faith into action, big things happen."—Dr.
Norman Vincent Peale
1898-1993, Preacher and
Author

* * * Sally Commentary * * *

Well, so far so good with the exercise program! As
many of you know, I’m currently writing the book,
Naturally Thin or Discipline? Insider Secrets of
the Super Slim. Well, I got so inspired, I’m 12
pounds down! Here is a photo of me on day one
and day 60.

From reading all of the insider secrets, I’ve
managed to distill it down to 3 things that have
helped me crack the code to finally shed those
unwanted mommy pounds after 7 years. And those 4
things are:

1. Keep my body from storing fat cells. I do so by
eating every 2.5 hours like clockwork, on a
schedule. So, I eat at 8am, 10:30am, 1pm, 3:30pm
and 6pm.

2. Eliminate cravings. I do so by eating delicious
protein bars between the three main meals.
I use the Beachbody ones that I get from:
www.teambeachbody.com/sallyshields

3. I exercise 6 days a week.

4. I take enough vitamin B and D. Now here’s where
it gets exciting. Anyone interested in this
incredible formula that I’m taking, please write
to me and I”ll fill you in. Hands down, the best
supplement I’ve ever taken. Lovin’ it, and it’s
transforming my life. AND I can help you to get it
for free. Email me at sally@theDILRules.com
for deets.

* * * Naturally Thin, or Discipline? * * *

As well, as many of you know, I'm currently
working on another book called, Naturally Thin or
Discipline? Insider Secrets of the Super Slim
where I am interviewing 101 skinny ladies and
getting all their secrets. In fact, since writing
the book I have dropped 10 pounds from learning
some of the insider tips and tricks!!! You can
see a bit of a before and after so far here. I am
aiming for a mid-summer/early fall release.

* * * Wanna be Thin, Happy, Healthy and Rich? * * *

As you may know, I've been very active online for
the last couple of years and made a lot of great
contacts with some bestselling authors and some
really successful folks who are supporting people
to create 6 figure incomes in the next 18 month. I
wanted to share it with you, since many of you who
read this newsletter I have found to be highly
motivated, high energy people that love success!

I’d love to introduce you to my new business
partner: the amazing Dr. Joe Rubino, who perhaps
you've already heard of. He is a multi-millionaire
entrepreneur and the best-selling author of 11
books available all over the world in 23
languages. He’s been supporting people to create
life-changing incomes for 19 years. He’s been on
the cover of Success Magazine and he’s featured in
the new hit movies, The Opus and The Journey. You
can check him out at: www.DrJoeRubino.com. I think
you’ll really enjoy speaking with him!

Dr. Joe asked me to think of 5 people that I
admire and appreciate and who might be interested
in creating an income of $450 to $2300 per month
part time to start and continuing on to $10,000
per month and more. If you would like to know more
about what we are doing, please let me know and we
can set up a time to chat. I can also email you
more info. By the way, I am very picky about this
stuff, however I'm am personally very impressed by
this and think you will really like it as well.

* * * Free Book Giveaway! * * *

And now, more about my friend and colleague Dr.
Joe Rubino, who is one of the world’s foremost
experts on self-esteem and the creator of The Self
Esteem System.

Or you may know him as the author of 10
best-selling books available worldwide in 23
languages on how to live your best life and create
business success.

Or you may know Dr. Joe as a transformational life
coach whose 3 personal development fables are
currently being developed into a Trilogy of
feature films (like Lord of the Rings.)

He reinvented himself from being a resigned and
introverted dentist through the process of
personal development, transforming himself into a
visionary leader committed to impacting the lives
of at least 20 million people.

But I bet you do NOT know his whole story.

You see…to support his transition from resigned
dentist to renowned life coach and author, he
needed to first replace his significant 6-figure
income as a dentist so he could devote his life
full time to championing others to be their best.
And he did this in 18 months through the vehicle
of network marketing.

Dr. Joe then detailed exactly how he was able to
create wealth in a tell-all book entitled…

Secrets of Building a Million Dollar Network
Marketing Organization from a Guy Who’s Been There
Done That and Shows You How to Do It Too!

…so that anyone could duplicate his success.

And now, he’s making that same book that has been
a perennial best-seller at $17.95 US in 11
languages available to you for FREE! You pay only
a small shipping and handling fee.

If you are interested in learning the exact
methodology that caused SUCCESS Magazine to
feature Dr. Joe on their cover and in their cover
story entitled “We Create Millionaires: How
Network Marketing’s Entrepreneurial Elite are
Building Fortunes at Breakneck Speed” pick up your
FREE paperback copy now while supplies last.

Secrets of Building a Million Dollar Network

Never Give Up On Your Dreams!

Like most women, I got married and got a
mother-in-law. But after a couple of years, I was
left scratching my head, thinking, where is the
manual for this relationship?!!! I wrote to the
ladies that wrote the bestselling book The RULES,
and told them that since they helped all these
women meet and marry the men of their dreams,
they then needed to provide some advice on how to
get along with the other woman in their man's
life—his mom! These 2 authors told me it was the
best idea they'd ever heard. I honestly just
wanted some advice on the topic! "You should
write it," they said. At first I thought they
were crazy since the last thing I'd written was a
term paper in high school English class! But, the
gears started turning in my mind. So I started to
jot down all the troublesome incidents that would
pop into my head in regards to my MIL, and came
up with a rule and a solution to deal with each
and every one. When I put a few of these rules
into practice (and saw that they actually worked)
I thought maybe I could help save other young
wives years of needless contention!

But, what about getting published? It didn't seem
feasible from all the stories I'd heard about how
impossible it was, and I didn't have a clue what
I was doing. But, I decided to try anyway. I went
the traditional route, and contacted over 100
literary agents. As the process evolved, I
realized just how hard it really was. I
eventually garnered the interest of a NY literary
agent through a well-crafted query letter, and
within a few weeks, I was signed. But soon I
learned that a proposal was required, which, I
found out, was even more difficult than writing a
book in the first place! I had to do market
research and statistical comparisons . I was
jumping through hoops, and it was a process that
I never want to repeat! However, I got over that
hurdle and finally, after several round of
editing said proposal, the agent began to submit
my manuscript.

Months went by. 15 rejection letters later, I
slowly realized that even if I was lucky enough
to get a publishing deal, it would require
signing over my rights and editorial control, and
allowing the agency and publisher to decide on my
book cover, interior layout, formatting, pricing,
release dates, all which could take between 1-2
years, maybe more.

At that point, I decided to investigate opting
out of my contract. I thought I'd rather
self-publish than go through all of that! And so,
I ended up self-publishing with a small vanity
press. And what a thrill to hold my book in my
hands for the first time! My mom was so excited,
and bought a few copies. So did my aunt in
California, as well as my best friend from high
school ... and the nice lady next door ordered a
copy of my book for her daughter's wedding
shower. Very nice. But now what?

One day I found out about a zero-to low cost
strategy for marketing your book online. When I
first signed up for the Amazon.com Bestseller
Campaign course, I created a list of affirmations
for myself. I knew that this course would take
months of dedication and hours of concentrated
work. Many people said that it was very difficult
to reach the #1 position, and that even so, why
spend so much money on a course that would
probably only lead to a few hundred sales, at
best? But I kept affirming to myself, “I am a #1
Amazon.com bestselling author!”

So, I kept on collecting bonus gifts, and
reaching out to JV partners month after month,
personalizing each and every note, keeping in
touch with everyone regularly to make sure that I
established a good relationship with them, and
hopefully ensure that they would come through
with their promise of mailing for me on that
day—as the secret to an Amazon.com bestseller
campaign is to get a bunch of people to buy your
book on a certain day, by offering them an
incentive such as free bonus gifts.

Finally, the big day came … and the
server crashed! I had 101 partners mailing out to
their lists, over a million eyeballs—and the link
didn’t work! I was devastated! But due to the
dedication and help of a team of amazing
technical support people, I was able to move the
campaign over to another server, and by 2:30 p.m.
ET the campaign was back up and running. I kept
saying my affirmations.

I reached #15 that day, in the Family
Relationships category. It was a slight
disappointment, because the folks teaching the
class almost guaranteed a top ten spot. I chalked
it up to the server crash. But I kept affirming.
The next month, I heard back from Dr. Laura that
she had chosen The Daughter-in-Law Rules to
feature on her show as book of the week—and I was
overwhelmed when the book catapulted up to #5!

But I had my goals—I know I’m
stubborn, but I still believed that I could make
it to the #1 spot! So I kept saying my
affirmations, over and over: “I am a #1
Amazon.com bestselling author!”

I was poking around Amazon one day, and realized
that there was a category under Home and Garden,
called Wedding Showers. I checked it out and it
seemed as if the competition wasn’t as steep
there, and even more appropriate for my book! So
I wrote to Amazon, and had The DIL Rules switched
from Family Relationships to Wedding Showers. I
kept writing to bloggers, asking them if they
would be so kind to post about the DIL Rules. I
kept the affirmation going.

On Monday, November 3, the DIL Rules hit #1 in
Wedding Showers on Amazon.com! I did a little
victory dance all day long! This was a yearlong
process, and although I could have given up or
quit, I kept on affirming. Here are just a few of
the things that came out of getting publicity for
my little self-published book:

•Got the position of co-host for an exciting new
online radio book show on BlogTalkRadio •Met with
celebrities such as NBC newscaster Roz Abrams who
asked me for advice on how to publish a book •Was
asked by the Learning Annex to submit a video
workshop tutorial •Was asked to join a panel of
writers at the ASJA convention •Offered a
position teaching a 2 day workshop at a writers
conference in San Miguel, Mexico •Discovered a
sneaky way to get my books into the hands of
celebrities like Halle Berry, Kate Hudson,
Jessica Alba, Tori Spelling, Angelina Jolie,
Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Garner and more! •Got a
letter of interest from the African Women's
Business Network to purchase 5,000 copies of the
DIL Rules :-) •Garnered interest from large
corporations such as David's Bridal and JC Penney
for potential bulk sales •Got an endorsement from
1-800-Flowers.com, which led to a full page ad in
the back with a promotional code created
specifically for the book •Received a large order
from an LA Bridal Organization and several bridal
shows in the New England area •Created a reality
show treatment and garnered interest from an
agency that deals with production and television.
•learned how to create a corporate sponsorship
proposal that could potentially earn millions

I now have a speaking career. I am a workshop and
teleseminar leader, radio host and creator of a
potential reality-show. I make corporate sales
and will be accomplishing a lot of things such as
fundraising and executing events with the big
wigs such as the National Breast Cancer
Foundation® and 1-800-flowers.com.

The moral? Never give up on your dreams! Keep
saying those affirmations and YOU WILL SUCCEED!

15% of the proceeds of this book will go

ZING ZANG ZOOM!

* * * Quote of the Week * * *

True happiness comes from the joy of deeds well
done, the zest of creating things new. - Antoine
de Saint Exupéry, 1900-1944, French Writer and
Aviator

* * * Sally Commentary * * *

Just came back from an amazing week at the San
Miguel writers conference when I met superstars
such as Todd Gitlan and amazing journalist Nina
Burleigh. I taught a 2 day workshop and had a
great time! Went to an oscar party at a local
theartre, and had some great Mexican food. An
all around wonderful experience.

On the way home, I met a couple that was on their
way to the Maury Povich show. A married couple,
not sure if the baby was his or not. I asked
what the husband did and he answered, “I am
disabled.”

As I asked more questions, his amazing
story began to emerge. He had been homeless 7
times, before joining the army. One day, he and
a friend were walking down the highway, when a
drunk truck driver came barreling down the road.
He pushed his friend out of the way, saving his
life. However, he got run over, leg crushed. His
brain was oozing out his ears. He had a near
death experience, and was considered “expired”
for a full 20 minutes. Fully recovered, he now
has a titanium leg, and is now a new husband and
father, committed to his child, weather
biologically his or not.

Book coach in high gear kicked in. Before the end
of the flight, I had him come up with a title for
his book, a chapter outline, and plans for him to
become a motivational speaker. There is nothing
that gives me more pleasure than creating new
hope and a bright future.

I am here to encourage you, and let you know that
ANYONE that would like to change their life
through writing a book, can, and I will help
you! If you can speak, you can write. There are
ways to write a book quite easily and I will help
you every step of the way. Call. Write. Write!
I know I'm right!

This teaser features the new and exciting
illustrations by the most fabulous Christine
Kerrick. The new and improved DIL Rules has
recently garnered the attention of a small
publishing house with national distribution.
That means, Barnes and Noble, Borders Books, and
hopefully a bunch of independant bookstores will
soon be housing the DIL Rules. Stay tuned for
progress reports.

I’m getting ready to embark on a journey to
beautiful San Miguel Mexico next week, to
co-teach a 2 day workshop on How to Become an
Amazon.com bestseller, with bestselling author
and colleague Debra Sanders
(http://www.debrasanders.com/) Her book, A Matter
of Panache, is the best book I’ve read since The
Kite Runner. This is a ‘can’t put down’ and I
loved every minute of reading it. To take a peek
at the workshop:

Sally on Fox & Friends

* * * Quote of the Week * * *

Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish
much. - Blaise Pascal, 1623-1662, French
Mathematician/Physicist/Theologian

* * * Sally Commentary * * *

It was truly an exciting experience on Fox &
Friends. Yes, I was nervous. Here’s how it all
went: after the producer booked me on the show,
we had a series of email exchanges, usually me
asking questions, and her responding with a one
or two word answer from her blackberry. So, I
decided to get with the program, mirror her
style, and wrote her this email:

Will beauty be avail? i.e. hair/makeup? Thx!
-Sally

Her response? “Yes, but don’t come w/wet hair”
So, I wrote back: "LOL - kewl!"

We were now fast friends. Fox and Friends. :-)

So then, another producer emailed me and we had a
“pre-interview” by phone where we discussed the
tips that I would be providing. She asked me to
come up with 2 "Do’s and a Don’t" for Michelle,
Marian and Obama. So, in that respect, it was
very scripted. She also asked me if I would like
a car service to come and get me. I was like,
Um, let me think about that one... yes!!!

It was very casual in the green room, where I
made friends with the staff, giving out books to
the hair and makeup people who made me all glam
and the nice intern who helped me with my tea.
When it was time to go on air, I did a little
deep breathing, and got miked up. Once on the
set, I felt pretty prepared, and the hosts even
prompted me on the tips, which was great, because
I was a bit worried about remembering all 9 of
them! The only time I got a bit off track was
when I was searching for the word “validate.” It
felt like about 5 minutes when I was sitting
there trying to come up with that word, but
fortunately after looking back at the clip it
didn’t seem so bad in retrospect.

Overall, it was absolutely the most professional
media experience to date, and it was truly an
honor to be a guest on the Fox news channel.

After all was said and done, the car service took
me home, I took off my makeup, and the kids
jumped on me. Well, it was fun while it lasted
but boy, nothing like being a mom to bring you
back down to earth – and FAST!!!

The Spa at Norwich Inn

Last year, my father noticed that I was a harried
mother, and suggested that I take some time to
myself, in the form of a 2 night/3 day gift
certificate to a spa in Norwich CT. It also
happed to be my big 4-0 so I accepted with
gratitude. Granted, it took me 15 months to
finally get it together to book the dang thing,
but it finally happened ... this week. And wow,
is all I can say!

The first day I had an aromatherapy treatment
followed by a wishful thinking, I mean, "anti
aging" facial, lots of relaxing in the hot tub,
quiet room and heated pool. The next day was
more of the same: Swedish massage in the a.m.
followed by a hair apt. more relaxing, and
finally, a "lavender therapy" manicure/pedicure.
I ended the day with a sumptuous meal of whole
wheat pesto filled gnocchi in the five-star
restaurant.

I noticed a piano in the lobby of the reception
room, so the gears started turning in my mind.
I'm thinking, I could come and do a gig here in
exchange for a day at the spa, perhaps make it a
yearly ritual... hmmm! So... I found out the
name of the woman who books the music, and made
an apt. to speak to her the next day.

When I began to explain my idea, I started by
telling her that I was a professional musician
living in NYC, and her eyes kind of glossed over.
I figured I'd better step it up a notch or two,
so I slipped in that I was the winner of the 17th
annual Great American Jazz Piano competition. Her
bottom lip protruded slightly. She looked
distracted. I was getting desperate. So, I
threw in the part about how my music is featured
on ABC's All My Children - the Valley Inn, no less! The
eyes dropped towards the floor. By that time I
was beginning to feel like something the dog
dragged in. And then she told me the deal: the
pianist who was currently performing there had been
doing so for years, and the only other music they
had was a calypso band that played on weekends.

Just as I began to sigh in defeat, I pulled out
one last stop. Oh, I said, did I mention that
I'm an author? simultaneously whipping out "the
little pink book." Here is the real shocker. Her
eyes lit up like a lightening bolt just popped
out of the sky and all of a sudden, her sleepy
demeanor turned to fascination and those puffy
lips? They turned upwards towards the heavens. I
had just pumped life into the inflatable doll!
She quickly informed me that there was, in fact,
a catering department that occasionally looked
for musicians for special occasions, as she
reached into her dress pocket for a card and
proceeded to write down the name of the gentleman
for me to contact. Tennis, anyone?

Moral: Can't get arrested as a musician. But
write a silly little book about the
mother-in-law, and voila - you're golden! I
encourage every one of you to drop everything
that you're doing and sit down and write a book.
Right here. Right now. It will open doors that
you thought were stuck beyond any can of WD-40.
Funny thing! Note to self: thank my
mother-in-law for being the catalyst for
acquiring the golden key to life.

Have a great week, and don't forget to call your
mother-in-law, if only to ask how she is feeling!

Martha Stewart Whole Living Radio with Emily Hoffman

Last night my flight from Rome was delayed for
over four hours, due to inclement weather. Boy,
was I glad when I got back to New York (even
though it was midnight) because I had a national
radio spot set up for the morning at 10am!

When I arrived at 1221 Avenue of the Americas,
there on the 36th floor was an opulent, sprawling
5000 square foot loft space, where many young
people were walking around in shorts, T-shirts
and flip-flops. What a dream job! A laid-back
vibe prevailed and most had smiles on their
faces. Although I didn't get to meet Martha in
person, her larger-than-life photos adorned the
walls, her iconoclasm unmistakably unmatched. I
enjoyed relaxing in the sparsely decorated
expansiveness, sinking deep into the plush
leather chaise-lounge.

When the producer called me in, I had 3 minutes
to get headphones on, check levels, ...and we
were on-air. Emily Hoffman was a real pro and
made the 20 minute interview flow as smoothly as
... a creamy béchamel sauce poured over Italian
tagliatelle!

As I exited the studio, once on street level, I
stopped by a nearby smoothie stand and ordered a
freshly prepared apple, pineapple spinach drink.
Although I was vaguely missing the historical
magnificence of the Colosseum, Pantheon and the
Cappella Sestina, as I publicly uttered,
"Delisioso!" I was truly glad to be back in New
York, with its gritty, modern architectural
mishmash, smoggy skylines, peculiarly pungent
aromas and all!

The Lou Kelly Show www.midnightinnowhereradio.com

One of the things that I’ve learned in life is to
be on time, even early and of course, to always
be reliable, accountable and dependable. In my
media training with the fabulous Wayne Kelly, I
learned that the answer to the question “Can you
be on the show?” is “Yes!” So, that is what I
answered when I got called to do a midnight radio
spot with Lou Kelly. My son had woken up
shortly before midnight, so I took the phone with
me as I soothed him back to sleep. However, I
seemed to have drifted off as well, and when I
woke up, it was 12:30am, 15 minutes past the
time of my interview! I called the show and
fortunately Lou was still on the air and we had
a great 30 minute chat about life,
mothers-in-law, understanding your spouse and
other fabulous topics. But boy, was I mortified!
The next morning, I found 3 messages from the
producer on my machine, and I wondered why the
phone hadn’t woken me up ... (it appeared as if
one of my gremlins had gotten a hold of it and
turned off the ringer!) Lou was very
understanding fortunately, said it was a function
of having a midnight show, it happened to many of
his guests, and that he would definitely have me
back on. And of course, we always have to
remember to forgive ourselves. I'm sure glad that
I didn't sleep through the entire thing, though,
and there was absolutely an angel tapping me on
my shoulder waking me up that night!

WTNH Channel 8 New Haven, CT

Today I got up at 4am, drove an hour and a half to
New Haven CT for a 2 and a half minute spot on
WTNH Channel 8 news. Sitting the in green room I
met 2 trainers a local program called the
Largest Loser (a local version of the Biggest
Loser) and 3 dog trainers who were giving pet
safety tips for the hot weather.

Once I got on the air, it actually felt like a
lot longer than 2 1/2 minutes! Time stops when
you're in the heat of the white light but the host,
Christ Valardi was a pro and asked some great
questions, reacted appropriately, and make me
feel very comfortable.

I got home at 9am, and the kids barely noticed
I'd been gone! I spent the rest of the morning
baking whole wheat muffins and playing princess
monopoly with my almost 6 year old, while my 2
year old sat and chewed ice.

I thought to myself, Kelly Ripa really has it
made! Get up, do a morning show for an hour,
come back home, spend the day with the kids, make
a cool 10 mil, hey not a bad life!

At 3pm, I'll be off again, this time to a jazz gig
with a group called 5 play - to play a
fundraiser for Skitch & Ruth Henderson's Hunt
Hill Farm in New Milford, CT.

Skitch Henderson was the founder of
the NY Pops in 1983. He started his professional
career in the 1930s playing piano in the
roadhouses of the American Midwest, his major
break being as an accompanist on a 1937 MGM
promotional tour featuring Judy Garland and
Mickey Rooney. Later, as a member of MGM’s
music department, he played on Bob Hope’s
Pepsodent Show. At NBC Radio, Skitch was the
music director for Frank Sinatra’s Lucky Strike
Show and The Philco Hour with Bing Crosby.

Dr. Laura Schlessinger

What a thrill when I got a call yesterday from Dr.
Laura Schlessinger's producer - telling me that
The Daughter-in-Law Rules had been chosen by Dr.
Laura to be recommended on her show June 30th! I
guess if you can't be proud on your own blog,
where can you be?

At first I thought that The DIL Rules was going
to be recommended by Dr. Laura in a brief mention
with a bunch of other books, but upon further
inquiry, said producer told me that Dr. Laura
receives approximately 5-10 books a day. At the
end of the week, a huge box gets sent over to
her, from which she picks one or two, and then
does a give-away on her show. So, 25 people will
be able to win a copy of The DIL Rules and you
can be sure I'll be ready to take a screen shot
on Amazon.com that day, just in case the people
who don't win decide to purchase the book anyway!

But once I got down off my high horse, I realized
that the most important thing here is not that my
book might sell a few million copies, or that I
might become the next J.K. Rowling (I am SO
totally kidding!) but rather that the book is
considered to be something that Dr. Laura feels
will be helpful to many, and that is wonderful.
My goal is to inspire more harmony among mothers
and daughters-in-law, and the book having been
chosen is simply verification of my vision.

Give Flowers to Someone You Love

This week my 5-year old-daughter was in her first
school play. She asked me if I could get her
flowers. I was so happy she asked, and I wished
I had thought of it on my own! You see, I had
been taking her to some local theater productions
at the Y, and she had noticed that many of the
performers received flowers after the show. The
sheer happiness on her face when I handed her a
bouquet of fresh daisies after the performance
was more thrilling to me that I can express
(even though she was one kindergartener out of
130 children and 5 grades participating). It
reminded me of how important it is to recognize
others for their achievements, no matter how
small they may seem, and how letting others know
how special they are to you is one of the most
important things we can do. Therefore, I chose
the following Daughter-in-Law tip of the week:

* * * A Daughter-in-Law Rules Tip of the week * * *

Mark your Mother-in-law’s three special days in
your calendar, birthday, anniversary (if she has one)
and Mother’s day, and send her flowers. But make
sure that she doesn’t receive a card solely with your
handwriting on it, or she may get the mistaken
impression that her son has forgotten her special
day! Best idea is to become a great ghostwriter,
and have your husband pen it from the both of
you.

* * * A Special Announcement * * *

I am very excited to let you know that The
Daughter-in-Law Rules was accepted by BabySwags,
a company that specializes in promoting pregnancy
and baby related products to celebrity moms,
publishers, editors and various members of the
media. This month, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba and
Halle Berry received The Daughter-in-Law Rules in
their baby gift baskets. You can see a picture of
Halle's basket here:
